Rogaining is the sport of long-distance cross-country navigation for teams travelling on foot. The object is to score points by finding checkpoints located in the rogaine area within a specified time (6...24 hours). Checkpoints may be visited in any order. The sport is popular in Australia (birthplace), New Zealand and North-America. In Europe, major long-distance orienteering events under this name (no use looking up in a dictionary as it is the abbreviation from the names of the "inventors") have been organised in Sweden and Czech Republic. The International Rogaining Federation has organised world championships with a 24-hour course every second year. These have been held on 5 occasions, the last in the Czech Republic in July 2002 with the participation of several teams from Estonia. National rogaining federations have been founded only in Australia, Czech Republic and Canada, in other countries it is the concern of orienteering clubs. Competition rules:

Time limit:
a) main classes - 8 hours, 9.30...17.30.
b) class VV - 4 hours, 13.30...17.30
Event maps (for each competitor) are available from 9.00-st (class VV from 13.00).
Score card (one per team) and number bibs (for each competitor) are delivered with event maps.
A team's score shall be the value of the checkpoints (KP) visited less penalties. The value of the checkpoints varies, depending on the difficulty-distance from the event centre, from 2 to 5, and is equal to the decimal place of the checkpoint number. Checkpoints may be visited in any order.
A team shall record its visits to a checkpoint by punching the correct section of the score card with the punch at the checkpoint marker. The checkpoint site is additionally provided with small pieces of paper so that the competitors could be sure that the checkpoint was here if the control flag or punch is missing. A visit to such checkpoint can be proved by picing up one scrap of paper.
late returns are penalised by deducting points: up to 1 minute - 1 point, for exceeding each next full minute - 1 point. Teams finishing more than 30 minutes late shall be deemed ineligible for a placing. The team with the greater score, or in the event of a tie, the team which finished earlier, shall be awarded the higher placing.
Each team must remain together (i.e. within sight of each other) for the entire period from the start until their retirement from the course. A team shall surrender its score card to organisers for the stay in the administration area. All members of the team must visibly wear the number bib of their team whilst on the course.
On the course, i.e. during the competition outside the administration area, competitors can use only food or other supply taken along from the event centre. The only exception is drinking water offered by organisers.
Competitors shall not deliberately rest within sight of a checkpoint.
The only navigational aids that may be carried on the course are compasses, watches and copies of the rogaine map provided by organisers.
If one or more members of the team want to retire from the course, the whole team must return to the competition centre and they are deemed to have finished. Those who want to continue can re-register as a new team, whereas the points scored for so far visited checkpoints are not counted.

Teams are deemed to compete in every class for which they are eligible.
Entry fees: Entry fee for a team is the sum of entry fees for individual team members. Entry fees for competitors (catering in the administration area from 12.00 to 19.00 and parking fee included).

Changes:
It is allowed to change the class, number and names of team members until 17.00 on 25 September. By way of exception (illness and the like) it is possible until 9.00 on the competition day to replace members of the team so that the class of the team won't increase. It is not permitted to form from one team two or more new teams.
