IV TA OK rogain
On Saturday, 4. October 2003
Rogaining is the sport of long-distance cross-country navigation for teams travelling on foot. The object is to score points by finding checkpoints located in the rogaine area within a specified time (6...24 hours). Checkpoints may be visited in any order. The sport is popular in Australia (birthplace), New Zealand and North-America. In Europe, major long-distance orienteering events under this name (no use looking up in a dictionary as it is the abbreviation from the names of the "inventors") have been organised in Sweden and Czech Republic. The International Rogaining Federation has organised world championships with a 24-hour course every second year. These have been held on 5 occasions, the last in the Czech Republic in July 2002 with the participation of several teams from Estonia. National rogaining federations have been founded only in Australia, Czech Republic and Canada, in other countries it is the concern of orienteering clubs.
